Once thought of only as an incentive option because of its many ad- vantages, an all-inclusive pricing structure, built-in entertainment and full charter capability — cruising has gone cyber-tech with cutting edge technol- ogy. Today, ships are outfitted to meet just about any technological challenge that might come up, including state-of-the-art video and audio systems to satisfy planner’s needs. Aside from the obvious, planners can customize everything from in-room televi- sion messages to information in multiple languages along with email, fax and com- puter modem capabilities. Cruise lines offer incentive program pas- sengers the most technologically advanced interactive on-board entertainment experi- ence available on any cruise ship. The pan- demic obviously canceled many incentive travel plans. However, now the excitement in the cruise industry is reflected by planner bookings, espe- cially with a diverse offering of ports, itineraries and activities. Obviously, land-based hotels and resorts are eyeing these developments with great interest. In fact, many hotels and resorts have entered into ar- rangements with cruise lines to offer pre and post stays for your meeting and incentive program participants. With new ships and itineraries choices becoming available, to help you navigate your way through the myriad of choices, planners should contact their favorite MICE cruise line representative to find out the itinerary to successfully book their program. Now is the time to join the new wave of incentive cruises as the future is now! Insurance & Financial Meetings Management is published bi-monthly by Coastal Communications Corporation, 2500 N. Sixteen cities are participating in Destination Canada’s Canadian Business Event Sustainability Plan. This not only speaks to the cities’ commitment to be sustainable hosts for international events but signals the beginning of the final phase of the plan. T5 is a two-level, five-gate domestic terminal with check-in/ticketing areas, arrival/departure baggage processing, a security screening checkpoint, and retail/food and beverage concessions. The estimated $404 million state- of-the-art facility will connect to the existing onsite Cypress parking garage and Terminal 4 through multi-level pedestrian bridges or walkways. Preliminary work on the approximately 230,000 sf terminal set to rise on the east side of Terminal 4 has commenced. Con- struction should take about three years for a targeted completion in mid-2026. T5 will add incremental gate capac- ity at FLL that, together with other upcoming capital development projects (earmarked to provide more gates), will better position the airport to meet future aviation demand. Industry forecast mod- els project FLL to grow from 35 million annual passengers today to nearly 52 million within 20 years. The new termi- nal will accommodate 4-5 million pas- sengers annually. The carriers expected to operate in T5 will be determined later. MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Meet Minneapolis has announced that the final week of the summer recorded the highest weekly demand for hotel rooms in Minneapolis since just before the pandemic began. More than 56,000 hotel rooms were occu- pied from Aug. 27 to Sept. 2, thanks to events throughout the city and region, including the 2023 Gay Softball World Series. That week capped a successful summer as major events — many of which were booked by Meet Minneapolis — translated into significantly improved overall performance for Minneapolis hotels. From Memorial Day to Labor Day this year, demand for hotel rooms in Minneapolis increased nearly 11% compared to last summer. Last June, with Taylor Swift concerts, the Twin Cities Pride Festival and the Kiwanis International Convention all taking place in the city, Minneapolis set a new all-time record for total hotel rooms occupied on a weekend with 19,531.
