The Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Puerto Rico Golf & Beach Resort is among the hotels devastated earlier this month by Hurricane Maria that plan to reopen in 2018, once necessary repairs have been made to the properties.
Wyndham Hotel Group released the following statement:
“Our deep sympathies and unwavering support is with the great people of Puerto Rico at this time as they work hard to rebuild our beautiful island.
“Because of meticulous planning and prioritizing the human element first, we are truly fortunate that all of our associates and guests are safe and sound after Hurricane Maria. Most all of our incredible associates have returned to the resort and are supporting the property for our future events. We are welcoming events to our property for 2018 and beyond as now, more than ever, is the time to champion growing business in Puerto Rico.”
Wyndham properties in Texas and Florida damaged earlier by hurricanes Harvey and Irma are in various stages of repair. Since Puerto Rico sustained a direct hit from Maria, a category 4 storm with winds up to 155 mph, damages there are catastrophic and electrical power has yet to be restored.
The Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) is operational again but on a limited schedule. An assessment of all hotel properties is underway, according to the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association, which suggests calling 787-522-5960 with questions about upcoming travel plans.
Meet Puerto Rico currently is working with the Puerto Rico Tourism Company (PRTC) and the Puerto Rico Hotel & Tourism Association (PRHTA) to assess damages and says it will provide an accurate update as soon as possible.
