Pendry Hotels & Resorts announced the opening of Pendry Chicago. Located in the heart of the Loop neighborhood, Pendry Chicago is a reimagination of the iconic 1920s-era Carbide & Carbon Building, a true American Art Deco landmark, and has 13,000 square feet of meetings and event space available.
Pendry Chicago delivers 364 newly redesigned guest rooms and suites; completely renovated and reinvigorated public spaces, including the hotel’s signature modern French brasserie and cafe, Venteux; the intimate Bar Pendry; The Billiard Gallery and a summer rooftop bar, set 24 stories above Michigan Avenue (to debut June 25 as Château Carbide), a day-to-night experience delivering the lifestyle of the Côte d’Azur with a very Chicago spin. The hotel offers 13,000 square feet of diverse meetings and event space, a state-of- the-art fitness center, and a curated art collection featuring works from both world-renowned and local Chicago artists.
“We are pleased to cement Pendry Hotels & Resorts’ presence in the Midwest with the opening of our latest hotel in one of Chicago’s most recognizable landmark buildings,” said Alan J. Fuerstman, founder, chairman and CEO, Montage International. “An embodiment of Chicago’s past, present, and future, we look forward to joining this incredibly vibrant city.”
Located near a dynamic collection of cultural attractions, corporate headquarters, and alongside Chicago’s famed River Walk and the Magnificent Mile, Pendry Chicago is the ideal home base to explore the city. The Burnham Brothers- designed Carbide & Carbon Building, famed for its unique Champagne bottle design is composed of luxurious polished black granite, green and gold Terracotta with bronze trim, topped off with an ornate cap of 24-karat gold leaf.
Steeped in history and anchored in style, the complete reimagination of the building’s public spaces was led by Alessandro Munge and the award-winning design collective, Studio Munge. In a bold signature statement, a dynamic black-and-white striped floor leads arriving guests to the luminescent reception parlor, adorned with works by Amsterdam based artist, Arnout Meijer. The artwork features an ongoing exploration of perception and light, elegantly and playfully contrasting the classic details of the lobby that pays homage to both the past and present.
“Reimagining this landmark building was an opportunity and an honor we approached with excitement and care. We are pleased to bring contemporary art and design, creative spaces and new dining experiences to the city,” said Michael Fuerstman, co-founder and creative director, Pendry Hotels & Resorts.
Bringing a sense of Southern California style to Chicago, the hotel also partnered with Los Angeles based, fashion designer, Heidi Merrick, who designed custom women’s uniforms for Front Desk and Bar Pendry associates. The hotel’s bespoke “uniform” pieces combine the best of Heidi Merrick’s signature silhouettes, along with pieces that provide a glimpse into future collections. Merrick, the daughter of world-renowned surfboard shaper Al Merrick, has also created a custom “SRF Pendry” sweatshirt for Pendry Hotels & Resorts inspired by her SRF Collection, available to purchase at www.shoppendry.com. The partnership with Merrick is the second in this collaborative series, following the opening of Pendry West Hollywood earlier this year.
