Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa Renovates Lobby

March 4, 2016

MontereyPlaza-400The Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa, a landmark luxury destination resort on the beach of famed Cannery Row, has completed a comprehensive lobby renovation.

Inspired by the deep blues, soft greens and soothing grays of California’s northern coastline, the illuminated interior complements the Monterey Plaza’s rich teak paneling and Rosa Verona marble floors. Elegantly comfortable furniture represents the California Spanish influences that are fundamental to the Monterey Plaza’s historic setting.

Included in the recently completed project:

  • The new Helmsman Lounge, located in the lobby, will become the hotel’s signature bar overlooking Monterey Bay (open Wednesday through Saturday evenings with live entertainment on Friday and Saturday).
  • The remodeled fireplace with custom stone surround is the centerpiece for a new seating area.
  • Brilliant marble floors and signature teak paneling were reconditioned throughout.
  • The Grand Staircase includes a new dramatic lighting feature.
  • An energy efficient lighting system was installed throughout the public space.
  • Venetian plaster ceilings were added.
  • Carpeting reflects the native California poppy and thistle.
  • New furniture , artwork and accessories were added throughout.
  • All guest services stations were remodeled and upgraded to better serve the guest.

The renovation of the lobby is a major phase of the $2.7 million in improvements being made at the resort. Also recently completed is the new sundeck at the Vista Blue Spa, offering a spectacular elevated view of Monterey Bay, looking out to the north and east. The four penthouse suites were completely remodeled with new furniture, carpets, drapes, colors and décor that continue the influence of the coastline.

To further embrace the history and culture of the entire Monterey Peninsula, the Monterey Plaza has developed Coastal Curator classes for its staff. Classes will provide in-depth “local knowledge” on local history, lifestyle, outdoor activities, food, wine and more that will be invaluable to the guest experience.

“We want our staff to be experts regarding the Monterey region, and to provide information our guests can trust.” said V.P and General Manager John Narigi. “Our associates will be able to curate and personalize the guest experience by providing knowledge and customized itineraries full of distinctive activities designed to create lifelong memories.”
