Jack Schmidt Wins Boss of the Year from N.C. Jaycees

Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club, a AAA Four Diamond luxury inn and golf club located on the campus of Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, and the newly opened AAA Four Diamond JB Duke Hotel, today announced its Area Director of Sales and Marketing Jack Schmidt was recognized as the 2017 Boss of the Year at the North Carolina Jaycee Distinguished Service Awards. The award is presented to a Jaycee employer who has given meritorious service to their family, church, community, nation and the Jaycee organization.
Schmidt has more than four decades of hospitality experience, primarily working for luxury and upscale independent hotels, resorts, casino hotels and conference centers. Working his way up from entry level positions, he brings a unique perspective and exemplary work ethic that guides his management style and everything he touches. Schmidt has served as an adjunct professor teaching hospitality sales and marketing and co-authored the original sales training materials for the International Association of Conference Centers (IACC). He also served on IACC’s board of directors for three terms, and is a past chairman of the America’s board of directors for the prestigious global organization, Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI). Locally, Schmidt served as a board member of the Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau and the Triangle Area Hotel Motel Association for Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill. He’s also been actively involved with the Jim Valvano Kids Klassic.

Schmidt has directed sales teams at some of the most prestigious properties in the country. Many people who’ve worked with him have gone on to be great leaders in the hospitality industry and beyond. He has bettered the Durham community by leading by example and fostering a community of trust and accountability.
