The El San Juan Hotel & Casino in San Juan, Puerto Rico, has announced that the property will undergo a multimillion-dollar renovation beginning August 15, 2016, resulting in a temporary closure. The upcoming property-wide transformation, slated for full completion in early 2017, will include thorough renovations to the guest rooms, pool area, meeting and entertainment spaces, food and beverage venues and spa and fitness facilities.
“El San Juan is truly a one-of-a-kind property that we look forward to revitalizing. The updates will pay homage to the historical status of this property as an iconic luxury lifestyle and entertainment resort, while incorporating a playfully elegant feeling to the modernized setting,” said Andro Nodarse-León of León Mayer & Co., one of the owners and asset manager of the resort.
The El San Juan, which opened in 1957 and was originally designed by Morris Lapidus and Max Borges, is a landmark 387-room hotel overlooking two miles of pristine beach in the Isla Verde district, Puerto Rico. The property boasts an 11,000-sf grand ballroom space, three pools, nine award-winning restaurants, 15 active bars, the island’s top nightclub, a 7,500-sf casino and 12 acres on Isla Verde Beach — recently voted the best urban beach in the U.S. Located two miles from Puerto Rico’s international airport, the property is situated in a neighborhood known for its beautiful beaches, eclectic restaurants and bars.
