Leaders of the Greater Boise Auditorium District celebrated the ground breaking of the Boise Centre expansion on July 1. The convention center expansion is part of the Civic Center Plaza development in downtown Boise and is adjacent to the current facility.
For more than a decade, the district has been exploring various expansion options to accommodate conventions and exhibits more than twice the size of existing events. Such events would bring larger numbers of visitors to Boise. “Over the years, Boise Centre has built a reputation for delivering the highest levels of guest service and quality events. Our vibrant city and newly expanded meeting space will position Boise to secure larger regional and national conventions that will benefit our local economy,” said Pat Rice, executive director.
The new construction and planned renovations to the existing building will nearly double the Boise Centre’s current 50,000 sf of meeting and event space. Completion is projected for Q3 2016.
The expanded space will include:
The City Center Plaza project will include an expansion of Boise Centre convention center, construction of the Clearwater Building, a technology-focused office building that will include the Boise State University computer science department, a multimodal transit center and restaurant and retail spaces. City Center Plaza brings together public and private entities with a common vision for downtown that will transform the heart of the city for many decades to come.
A 10-minute ride from the Boise Airport, Boise Centre is located in the heart of Boise’s downtown core and is within walking distance to restaurants, retail and nightlife venues.
