ASAE Urges Legislators For Quick COVID-19 Financial Relief Aid

With COVID relief negotiations continuing in Congress, ASAE has called on association leaders to write their legislators to ensure 501(c)(6) organizations are not left out of any end-of-year package.
With the goal of helping secure PPP access for as many 501(c)(6) organizations as possible in any year-end COVID bill, ASAE re-delivered to lawmakers its most recent sign-on letter calling on Congress to expand access to the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) to include 501(c)(6) nonprofit organizations. ASAE’s sign-on letter also calls on Congress to extend the PPP until at least March 31, 2021; allow 501(c)(6) associations to obtain a second PPP loan if needed, referred to as a “second draw”; expand the definition for eligible receipts within the second draw program to include in-person event cancellations and lost revenue from certification programs and other education; and apply the lobbying restrictions for eligible PPP loan recipients outlined in the House-passed HEROES Act. That restriction requires PPP loan recipients to exclude compensation to any federally registered lobbyist as an eligible PPP expense.
ASAE has also asked its grassroots advocates to complete a new survey that will help ASAE collect fresh data on the financial and staff impact of COVID-19, event cancellation insurance, labor and demographics. This data is invaluable for messaging to Congress and will help support ASAE’s push for 501(c)(6) aid this month and into 2021.
