Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak, was joined by Nevada’s COVID-19 Response Director Caleb Cage and Julia Peek, deputy administrator in the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services, to provide an update on the COVID-19 situation in Nevada and trends across the state.

The Silver State continues to be impacted by an increase in COVID-19 cases in communities and all Nevadans are encouraged to remain diligent in their adherence to mitigation measures including wearing a mask and social distancing.

“This has been an extremely delicate balancing act,” said Governor Steve Sisolak. “The pandemic has been framed as a false choice: shut it all down or do nothing – but we know that’s not the case. We know that doesn’t have to be our reality – we know we can’t afford it. But to avoid trade-off’s and tough decisions in the future, we must all take mitigation measures seriously. This is the only way to balance the health and safety of Nevadans with the need to protect our economy, keep people employed, provide an education to our kids, and more.”

Speakers also addressed Nevada’s hospital situation, noting that the state’s hospitals are currently not experiencing the surges occurring in other states across the country, but that public health measures are necessary to prevent a spike.

“We do know that our hospitals have learned a lot in the last eight months about caring and treating for COVID,” said Director Caleb Cage. “But that’s not through luck. That’s through the hard work of our medical professionals each and every day to provide the highest levels of care.”

In addition to a discussion of COVID-19 trends, the Governor provided an update on state resources for Nevadans including information on housing assistance and the Nevada Resilience Project. Sisolak urged those in need to seek out more information from local municipalities as well as legal aid centers in their respective regions.
