Sawgrass Marriott Nears Makeover Debut

March 4, 2016

Sawgrass MarriottThe iconic Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort & Spa in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, is nearing the completion of a resort-wide, $25 million refresh. Enhancements will be seen throughout its 511 guest rooms/villas, resort pool area, modernized front desk area, hotel façade, and the Sawgrass Spa and Cabana Beach Club. Other exciting facets of the project are a new “Butler Serviced” guest wing, and The American Gator Club restaurant, which will debut soon.

The refresh commenced in Q4 2015 and to date completed projects include:

  • Exterior of the Villas
  • The Primary Resort Pool
  • The Lagoon Pool
  • Cascades Event Lawn
  • Main Resort Entrance
  • Front Desk

The pool renovation included new surfacing, lighting, built-in fire pits and more, plus the addition of a modular cabana for daily rental. Landscaping enhancements include 4,700 indigenous plants adorning both pools as well as up and down lighting installed to dramatize the many 200-year-old oak and palm trees throughout the grounds.

By mid-March, The American Gator Club, formerly the 100th Hole, also will launch. Guests will enjoy enhanced views of the 13th hole of the TPC Sawgrass’ legendary golf course The Stadium Course while enjoying fare from an innovative new menu, including lighter, more healthful options and local flavors, as well as Gator Club events and activities for adults and kids.

And by May, the hotel façade will boast fresh color, while guest rooms will have expanded, with Juliette balconies replaced by oversized sliding windows, complementing the sleeker hotel façade.

By summer’s end, the Sawgrass Spa will have added two couples treatment rooms and three new hair and makeup stations (new fitness center equipment was added in February). Additionally, guests can begin enjoying the SurfStream wave simulator, adjacent to the primary resort pool. It features adjustable wave size, shape and multiple riding modes. The oceanfront Cabana Club renovations will be finished in summer, too — including a more elegant entrance and fresh landscaping; a new roof; resurfaced brick-paved walkways leading to the existing boardwalk onto the beach; and resurfacing of both pools and adjacent patios.

In September, the guest rooms will be completed, with 30 additional sf per room, new bedding, linens, carpet, lighting and bathrooms. A second Presidential Suite will be unveiled, featuring both living and dining rooms to comfortably seat eight guests. Most exciting is the completion of Sawgrass Marriott’s “Butler Serviced” rooms and suites in September. Behind an unassuming glass door, guests’ VIP keys will open a wing welcoming them to an unparalleled oasis. The new wing will consist of 31 rooms and suites showcasing wide-planked hardwood floors, raised-platform beds, custom lighting, wrap-around sofa, eat-in table and much more. Butlers will anticipate guests’ every need, from preferential tee times to VIP reservations at exclusive restaurants and much more.
