The Cancun Center Gets a Makeover

May 26, 2015

Cancun CenterThe Cancun Convention & Visitors Bureau in Cancun, Mexico, announced the renovation of the world-class Cancun Center, which is set for completion in June 2016. Located in the heart of Cancun’s Hotel Zone, the convention center began operations in 2004 and has since become a trusted facility with high-caliber capabilities hosting conferences, conventions and exhibitions of national and international stature. In 2014 alone, the convention center hosted 13,000 visitors for meetings and conventions and 12 major conferences, generating revenue of more than $35 million, a 42 percent increase from the previous year.

“The Cancun Center’s renovation will greatly reinforce the destination’s position as a desirable location for meetings and conferences,” said Jesus Almaguer, CEO of the Cancun CVB. “In addition to our pristine beaches and turquoise waters, renowned service and high-end resorts fit for meetings of all sizes, the newly renovated facility will provide an additional reason for meeting planners to book their conferences in Cancun.”

Sanzport, the company spearheading the renovation, received the A’ Design Award in Milan, Italy for the category “Architecture, construction and structure design” for the original design of the Cancun Center. The design concept for the enhancement project is inspired by the natural elements of the Caribbean.

The Cancun Center features a robust calendar of events for 2015, including 19 large conferences with approximately 23,000 participants expected to generate an estimated $42 million for the destination.

The center is host to the largest number of congresses and conventions in Mexico and the ICCA (International Congress & Conventions Associations) reported it also is host to the highest number of international conferences. The convention center expects to close this year with approximately 500 events, highlighting major international and national conferences, exhibitions and local events.

The Cancun Center, which began remodeling efforts in October 2014, has since upgraded interior meeting spaces and common areas on various floors. Wood columns located on the ground floor have been wrapped in different shades of vinyl, which perfectly contrast with the new carpets. Organic figures and natural wood accents also can be found in both the ceiling and marble details throughout the center.
